Hello! My name is Ashley Winans and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) under the supervision of Jennifer Hughes, LPC-S License #72051. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Education from Stephen F. Austin and taught at the elementary level for 10 years.
Concluding my undergraduate career, I obtained my Master of Education in School Counseling as well as completed the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program from Lamar University. I am currently a School Counselor at an elementary school along with seeing clients at Sage Minds. When I am not working, I love to travel, exercise, and spend time outdoors with my husband, three dogs, family, and friends.
My background as a teacher in the inner-city Dallas schools encouraged me to pursue a career as a School Counselor and now a therapist. It was during that time that I discovered how important it is to take care of our mental health in order to better cope with life's challenges.
I believe in focusing on a client's strengths, areas of need, and their life-story to create a safe space to provide therapy and focus on their individualized treatment goals. I am committed to providing quality care and strive to help you find meaning, to understand your purpose, and to help you navigate the challenges that you face so that you can walk the path that you choose for lasting change to reach your full potential.
I specialize with children and adolescents who suffer from various mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional regulation, behavioral issues, grief, stress, self-esteem, trauma, emotional disturbance, and oppositional defiance. I’m passionate about helping you get real tools, coping skills, strategies, and plans so you can actually implement and apply therapy in your life.
Your needs matter. You’re worthy. You’re enough. You deserve to take time for yourself. The most important aspect of successful therapy is finding a therapist that you are able to connect with; let me be that person for you!
